Houbara bustards
In the Atlas Mountains in Morocco there are people taking care of Houbara chicks. The number of Houbara bustards has decreased because of hunting, and destruction of the place where they live. There is a fund for Houbara conservation in the UAE, and Kazakhstan; they are trying to start new conservation projects in other countries where Houbara used to live. “Between opening in 1995 and last year, the emirates center for wildlife propagation has produced more than 60,000 of the birds” (Todorova, V. 2011). The center in Morocco has plans for the future to increase the number of birds that are released per season. Birds trained to be familiar with humans to support handling for breeding. They keep the chicks in cages until they are nine months old then they release them to the wild. There are no birds released during hunting season. Scientists monitor every movement of birds. Since the past 10 years nesting has increased, so that means the program is very well.
